"I can't believe the sun spots on my hands have gone after one session!"

Freckles - Sun Spots - Birthmarks

IPL and lasers release short pulses of light that is readily absorbed by the high concentration of melanin found within freckles, sun spots (solar lentigines) and birthmarks. The rapid absorption of light energy heats and causes the destruction of the excess melanin within the cells.

With IPL, a layer of chilled gel is applied to the area, the light applicator is placed on the skin and a short pulse of light is released. The applicator is then moved to the neighbouring area and the process is repeated until the entire area is treated.

IPL is used in the first instance on freckles and sun spots. Lasers are used for cafe au lait birthmarks or some sun spots. Often only one to two shots are required on an individual sun spot; freckles and birthmarks may need multiple shots.

Most clients describe treatment as mild and tolerable. However, it does have a little "down time." This is due to the lesion initially darkening and then forming a micro-crust which "flakes" away, taking the excess pigment with it. This process usually takes between one to two weeks and should be allowed to happen naturally. Prices start from £65 for a single lesion.

Most people don't experience any negative side effects, the area can just be a little red when using IPL. It can take a little longer to settle when using lasers, but this usually happens uneventfully. A  cooling device can be used throughout to help alleviate any negative side effects. You will be advised of how to care for the treatment area at the time of booking.

A full consultation and patch test are carried out prior to treatment. Please be aware that we can't treat suntanned skin.
